Indigo People Carp Bandana

Bandhani tie and dye

The traditional Bhandani technique is a tie and dye resist method which is similar to the Japanese Shibori technique. Each shape is composed by plucking the cloth with the fingernails into many tiny bindings that form a figurative design. The bindings resist colour during the indigo dyeing process. The art of Bandhani is a highly skilled and labour intensive way of producing patterned textile.

Natural Indigo Dye

To get a deep dark blue colour, the fabric is dipped about 10 to 20 times in a vat of indigo. The more the fabric is dipped in the natural indigo, the darker the blue colour will get. During the dyeing process, no chemicals are added. General wear, use and wash will fade the colour and each product will gain its unique appearance by time.
